“She isn’t my partner. You are.”
Oh, his face. I love that intense look when he’s determined to drive his point home.
This line is so important. Sophia is - at this point - an embodiment of many of Beckett’s insecurities concerning her relationship with Castle. She’s still worried that she’s just one name on a long list of women that Castle has loved, and Sophia makes her wonder if anything between them is theirs alone or if Castle has danced this dance before.
So this admission by Castle is huge for their relationship. We’ve heard them refer to each other as partners many times before, but this time it’s different. This time, Castle is explicitly stating that Beckett is special to him because she is his partner. He may have worked with Sophia; he may have had a romantic relationship with her, but she was never his partner the way Beckett is. Castle has had muses, groupies, lovers, and even wives, but he has never had a partner like Beckett. Their relationship is different than anything Castle has ever experienced before, and I like that he’s finally telling Beckett that in a way she would understand and appreciate.
^ SO MUCH ALL OF THIS. And the way Beckett looks at him in response means she understands.
Really, this show.
